Krhov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the summit of the Malý Chlum table mountain lies the fortified archaeological site of Krhov “Malý Chlum”.

Landscape

Krhov lies at the northern foot of Malý Chlum, whose elevation is given as 488 m above sea level. The village is situated on the right bank of the Úmoří stream; forests extend south and east of Krhov. To the west, the remains of the embankment of the unfinished Vienna–Wrocław motorway are visible.

Culture and History

The fortified Malý Chlum site has an elongated oval ground plan: its axes measure 261 m in a northeast–southwest direction and 70 m in a northwest–southeast direction. Originally, the archaeological site covered an area of 1.5 ha. It is most easily accessed from the settlement of Huť Sv. Antonie, which lies approximately 500 m southeast below the foot of Malý Chlum.

Krhov was founded as a mining settlement. The first written mention dates from 1409. Iron ore was mined in the vicinity of Krhov from the 15th century onwards; slate and coal were extracted in later years.

The local history also includes two religious buildings: the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus dates from 1933, while a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands on the outskirts of Krhov.

Routes

Cycling route 5201 from Černá Hora to Chrudichromy runs via Bořitov, Huť sv. Antonie and Krhov. In addition, a signposted local cycling route passes through Krhov. The Malý a Velký Chlum educational trail was ceremonially opened on 14 April 2013.
