Svinošice – Nature, Hiking Trails and Culture

South of Svinošice lie the protected area of Spálená skála and the Babí lom nature reserve. There, a rocky ridge of pebble conglomerates, covered by natural forest, shapes the landscape.

Nature

In the eastern part of Svinošice lies the newly reconstructed Luhy locality with a rest area and a fire pit. From the rest area, you can reach the Šebrovka waterfall.

A yellow-marked hiking trail to Babí lom begins in Svinošice. Via the yellow hiking trail, the 15-metre-high Babí lom lookout tower can be reached from Svinošice at a distance of 4.3 kilometres; the tower is freely accessible.

The nearby Babí lom forestry educational trail is just under 2 kilometres long and includes a total of 10 information boards. The different route lengths and educational trail formats can be compared for your own daily planning. Compared with the 10.6-kilometre route to the Nový hrad ruins, this short educational trail represents a different route length. By placing the information side by side, you can distinguish between a compact information circuit and a considerably longer hiking route without equating the two offerings in terms of content.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Holy Family in Svinošice was built at the end of the 19th century. A cast-iron cross on a stone pedestal has stood next to the chapel since 1871.

In the upper part of Svinošice, on the road to Šebrov, there is a state-protected cultural monument in the form of a wayside shrine.

A memorial plaque dedicated to the headmaster Bohumil Vařílek has been located on the former school building, now the cultural centre, since 1945.

On the village square opposite the chapel, the 1921 war memorial commemorates all the victims of the First World War from Svinošice. Its pedestal was later supplemented with a marble plaque bearing the names of three victims of the Second World War.

There was once a medieval fortress in Svinošice. It is documented for the years 1373 to 1437 and disappeared sometime in the second half of the 15th century.

Routes and Discoveries

The Nový hrad ruins can be reached from Svinošice via the yellow hiking trail to the U Jelínka trail junction and then via the red hiking trail along a 10.6-kilometre route.

At Lelkovadlo, a wooden sculpture, there is a rest area with benches and a covered shelter where hikers can take a break.

The educational trail of Lesy města Brna begins about 500 metres from Lelkovadlo. It explains the journey of a tree from seed to wood products.

Local Life

Road II/379 from Blansko to Brno runs through Svinošice in an east-west direction.

Svinošice hosts a tasting competition for the best slivovitz brandy, called “Svinošická švestka”.

Traditions in Svinošice include the August kroj festivals (krojované hody) and a carnival procession through the village.
