Zakřany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the centre of Zakřany stands the Chapel of St. Donát. Together with the village square, the municipal office and the fire-water reservoir, it forms the natural centre of the municipality.

Culture and History

The present Chapel of St. Donát was built in 1888 after the former chapel from 1856 had been demolished. The valuable historicist building features Romanesque architectural elements on the exterior and Baroque elements in the interior. The chapel was consecrated on 15 June 1890.

Archaeological finds provide evidence that the area around Zakřany was already inhabited in the Neolithic period. The first written mention of Zakřany dates from 1350; it reports that Oldřich ze Zakřan transferred two lán units of land to Kateřina, the wife of Vilém ze Skalice.

The historic villagescape includes a freestanding brick wayside shrine known as boží muka. It is topped by a four-sided pyramidal roof with sheet-metal roofing and an equal-armed cross. Northwest of Zakřany, in an open field beside the road towards Vysoké Popovice, there is also a freestanding brick wayside shrine.

Trails and Landscape

The educational trail between the South Moravian municipalities of Zakřany and Zbýšov u Brna runs parallel to the road, is illuminated and is 461 metres long. It serves to educate children and adults and includes around two dozen fruit trees and shrubs.

The Stezka permoníků trail leads through hilly terrain with wide views and shady forests, as well as over uphill sections, level stretches and fords. In Zakřany, an atonement stone is one of the stations mentioned along this route.
