Hrušovany U Brna: Vacation Apartments and Vacation Homes

The original building of the Hrušovany u Brna sugar factory was completed in 1882 and was one of the largest sugar factories in Moravia.

Culture and History

The Church of Our Lady Queen was built between 2000 and 2004 based on a design by architect L. Vojtová. The interior design was created by Jiljí Šindlar.

Another notable building is the residence of sugar factory director Viktor Bauer, designed in 1918 by architect Adolf Loos. It was the first flat-roofed building in Moravia and is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments under registration number 17683/7-7082.

The Smírčí kříž from 1595 is the oldest surviving monument in Hrušovany u Brna. It represents a transitional form between a cross and a cross stone, bears a Latin cross and a six-line inscription. The Kamenný kříž is considered the oldest ecclesiastical monument in Hrušovany u Brna and is attributed to the sculptor Jan Stern from Židlochovice. It was erected in memory of the hailstorm of July 6, 1781, which destroyed the entire harvest in the surrounding area.

The 1916 factory hall of the sugar refinery is also one of the municipality’s defining buildings. Adolf Loos is presumably considered at least the author of the building’s exterior shell.
