Pustiměř: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pustiměř lies on the border between the intensively farmed Haná region and the wooded landscape of the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. At the same time, the village is considered one of the oldest settlements documented in records in the Vyškov area.

Culture and History

Historical evidence includes the remains of the Romanesque Rotunda of St. Pantaleon, dating from the first quarter of the 12th century. The Chapel of St. Anne is located in the immediate vicinity of the rotunda. Towards the end of the 17th century, it was converted into a pilgrimage church; every year, the St. Anne pilgrimage takes place there around 26 July.

The Roman Catholic Parish Church of St. Benedict is Pustiměř’s most prominent cultural landmark. The present church was built in 1900 and 1901 to replace the older church. The grounds of the former monastery are entered through a small gate south of St. Benedict’s Church.

In the wider regional area lies Melice, the archaeologically investigated ruin of a bishop’s castle with an extensive outer bailey on a promontory between Pustiměř and Drysice. The Melice educational trail is an approximately 6.5 km circular route along paved and forest paths and is suitable for families with children.

Nature and Landscape

Within Pustiměř, the Letiště Marchanice nature monument protects the habitat of the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus). The Pustiměř lime tree near the church is one of Pustiměř’s significant natural features.

Festivals and Traditions

The Pustiměř Ostatky tradition includes the ceremonial transfer of control over the municipality from the mayor to the Ostatníci; this takes place under the designation “ostatkové právo”. The Pustiměř Ostatky are celebrated as a two-day festival approximately every two to three years.

Pustiměř can be reached by car or bus; there is a small car park near a shop and a bus stop.
