Oslavany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Rosicko-Oslavansko Mining and Energy Museum presents almost 250 years of hard-coal mining history in the Rosicko-Oslavansko Basin. It includes a true-to-scale model of a mine tunnel with a mining locomotive. From May to September, the museum is open to the public on weekends and on selected significant days; during the summer holidays, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

History and Museums

The headframe of the KUKLA mine was built in 1910–1911 as one of the most modern mining structures in the Habsburg Monarchy. In 2012, it was reopened as a publicly accessible cultural monument with interactive content.

The Oslavany Firefighting Museum is located on the ground floor of the south wing of Oslavany Castle. It displays unique exhibits and documents; its collection also includes hand-operated or steam-powered fire engines that are more than 100 years old.

The Lapidarium at Oslavany Castle presents architectural fragments and stonework from the collections of the museum in Ivančice. The lapidarium project opened another part of Oslavany Castle to the public. In the lapidarium, visitors can see tombstones of citizens from Ivančice, objects from the former Jewish quarter of Ivančice, and a fragment of the pillory column from Ivančice's town square.

Culture and the Past

The Church of St. Nicholas in Oslavany is of Gothic origin and was later remodelled in the Baroque style. The Cistercian convent in Oslavany, Vallis sanctae Mariae, was the first Cistercian convent in Moravia. After the convent passed into secular ownership in 1525, it was converted into a Renaissance château.

The Oslavanské historické slavnosti commemorate the arrival of King Přemysl Otakar I and Queen Constance in Oslavany during the consecration of the Cistercian convent Údolí sv. Marie in 1228. The festivities include a knights' tournament and a historical craft market.

Nature and Park

The restored educational trail about the Permocarboniferous created by RNDr. Lubomír Malý is located a few hundred metres from Oslavany Castle. Oslavany Castle Park offers opportunities for peaceful walks and relaxation. Numerous birds, bats and rare insects such as the hermit beetle can be found there.

Water and Leisure

Oslavany's natural swimming biotope features a public swimming lake that is accessible for an admission fee during the swimming season. The Oslavany swimming biotope includes a children's water area with paddling pools, water sprayers and a play fountain. Visitor parking for the Oslavany swimming biotope and the sports facilities in the castle gardens is available on Sportovní Street and on the grounds of the TJ Oslavany stadium.

Permonium is a family leisure park in Oslavany that combines adventure, exercise, nature and stories from a former hard-coal mine. Duhový svět is a nature park with colourful play elements, water attractions and fairytale areas for children aged approximately 2 to 6.
