Obora: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the summit of the Malý Chlum table mountain lies a fortified archaeological hilltop site with several settlement phases. The most intensive settlement phase took place in the 9th century BC, during the Late Bronze Age. The archaeological site on Malý Chlum served as a central place for the surrounding lowland settlements.

History and Village Character

At the entrance to the village from the direction of Jabloňany stands a monument to the fallen citizens of Obora and legionnaires. It was unveiled on 25 September 1921. The settlement of Hutě sv. Antonie also belongs to the municipality of Obora. There, spoil heaps covered with birch trees bear witness to the historical extraction of saltpetre and coal.

Living traditions are also part of the village character: Obora has a continuing beekeeping tradition.

Landscape and Nature

Oborský Chlum reaches a height of 488 m; fossils, including ammonites, can be found there. Further palaeontological sites with prehistoric fossils are located in the cadastral area of Obora. Because of their uniqueness, they are known as “Oboria”.

The mountains of Skatulec, Jedla, Střela and Bučí lie in the vicinity of Obora.

The wider regional area around Obora includes Veveří Castle, the Monument to the Victims of the First and Second World Wars, Brno Zoo and the ruins of Kuchlov.

Routes through Obora

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Obora, leading to Malý Chlum and onwards to Lysice. Obora also has a local cycle route.
