Moravský Písek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Moravský Písek combines an unusual historical monument with floodplain forest, wet meadows and protected amphibian habitats. It also features a distinctive church building, a protected statue, the Moravská vinná cycle path and a long-documented winemaking history.
Culture and History
Kačeník was built around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries by the then landowners, the Lords Želečtí of Počernice, as a facility for catching live ducks with the help of a trained dog. Today, Kačeník is no longer operational, but is relatively well preserved and is the only facility of its kind in the Czech Republic and Europe.
The parish church of St. Anne is also one of the village’s defining architectural and artistic works and a distinctive landmark of Moravský Písek. Another protected sight is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1746.
Landscape and Nature
Kačeník is located near the bridge over the Nová Morava on the road to Veselí nad Moravou, on the edge of the Dolní les floodplain forest with ponds that dry up in summer and former channels of the Morava. Vypálenky presents a different aspect of the landscape: the area consists of irregularly flooded wet meadows with reeds and small bodies of water. The fire-bellied toad and Danube crested newt are protected there; at the same time, Vypálenky is a site of European importance in the southeastern part of Moravský Písek.
The Váté písky area stretches in a narrow strip along the railway line between Rohatec and Moravský Písek. Thus, different landscapes with floodplain forest, former river channels, wet meadows and sandy areas lie alongside one another in and near Moravský Písek.
Routes and Getting There
The Moravský Písek zast. stop is located on railway line 330 between Přerov and Břeclav. It provides step-free access to the stop and all platforms. The Moravská vinná cycle path also runs through Moravský Písek.
Winemaking and Outdoor Swimming Pool
The earliest known surviving mention of Písek as a wine-growing municipality dates from 1527. The Koupaliště outdoor swimming pool in Moravský Písek opened on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at 10 a.m.
