Josefov near Hodonín: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Josefov combines viticulture, local history and annual traditions with a landscape shaped by fields, vineyards and orchards. The small Prušánka river flows immediately beyond the village; at the same time, the Josefovské búdy are part of the local wine and wine-cellar landscape in Josefov.

Culture

Today’s All Saints’ Church in Josefov was created in 1877 by converting a chapel. Another monument is the Baroque statue of Saint Anne, the oldest monument in Josefov. It stands on the edge of the village on the road to Prušánky. North of Josefov, between the wine cellars, there is also a monument to Saint Urban, the patron saint of winegrowers.

Wine and traditions

Vinařství Prath offers individually arranged, guided wine tastings for groups of up to 18 people in Josefov. Vinařství Prath processes exclusively grapes from its own integrated production.

The traditional costume Hody festival is the largest event in Josefov every year. “Smrtnica” is held in Josefov every year on “Smrtná neděle”; on this occasion, a singing procession of girls passes through Josefov. During “Smrtnica”, the figure of “BABA” is undressed at the stream; the remains are then thrown into the flowing spring water.

The wine and traditions festival “Zarážání hory” takes place in Josefov every year in August and is open to visitors.

Landscape

The 56-kilometre “Malý hodonínský okruh” cycle route passes through Josefov.
