Moravské Knínice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Moravské Knínice combines distinctive natural and landscape areas with historic sacred buildings. In addition, there is an educational trail with nine stations, a designated natural bathing area, and a festival tradition celebrated every year.

Nature and Landscape

The Obůrky-Třeštěnec natural monument is located in the cadastral area of Moravské Knínice. It covers approximately 2.63 hectares. It protects wet meadow communities at the bottom of a permanently waterlogged ravine, home to numerous significant plant and animal species.

U Kaple-Stráňky is a 2.5-hectare ecologically significant landscape element and local biocentre. It lies 500 metres south of Moravské Knínice below the Chapel of St Cyril and St Methodius. Most of Čihadlo consists of an extensively grassed cherry orchard.

Mokré louky za střelnicí preserves the last fragment of the original semi-cultivated meadows in the area of Kuřim and the wider surroundings of Brno.

Culture and Townscape

The Church of St Markéta was built in 1366. The Chapel of St Cyril and St Methodius stands south of Moravské Knínice on a hill along the road to Písky. Jana Nepomuckého stands at the corner of Kuřimská and U Jánečka streets on the second-class state road towards Kuřim.

A tradition in its own right is the Markétské hody, a series of costumed celebrations held every year for the feast of Saint Markéta.

Getting Around Locally

In Moravské Knínice, there is a bus stop for IDS-JMK line 312 on Kuřimská Street near the Knínický hostinec. The Moravské Knínice educational trail passes nine stations featuring local natural and historical sights. It follows a blue-marked hiking route from the central stop to the pond below the chapel.

The Pod kaplí pond is designated as a natural bathing area; swimming is at your own risk.
