The chapel with a crucifix stands on the village square in Hajany. It is a protected immovable cultural monument with registration number 39770/7-702. Outside Hajany is the burial chapel of the Counts of Deym, which is also a protected immovable cultural monument, registered under number 30940/7-8084. The burial chapel of the Counts d’Harnoncourt-Unversagt, later the Counts Deym von Střítež, dates from the last quarter of the 19th century and is considered an important example of contemporary sepulchral architecture. Its entrance has been bricked up since the 1980s; the building is considered dilapidated or in acute danger.

Hajany Castle is considered a heritage-worthy building that documents the settlement’s original historical development. At the end of the 18th century, the Smetana family had a one-storey Neoclassical chateau with a park and its own family crypt built. Its architecture is an example of a transitional style of rural construction with elements of Late Neoclassicism and early Historicism in the Brno region. The chateau complex includes an axially arranged clock-tower structure and green spaces with still recognisable elements of the park design: walls, terraces, stairs and a fountain. Despite progressive neglect, which has significantly diminished the value of the complex, it retains its dominant role in Hajany’s urban structure.

History

Hajany originally belonged to the Premonstratensian convent in Dolní Kounice. After 1323, Queen Eliška Přemyslovna exchanged Hajany with the Cistercian convent in Old Brno for the small town of Pravlov.

An interactive route covering the Battle of Ořechov leads through sites associated with the battle and focuses on the fighting between the Red Army and Nazi troops in 1945. It takes approximately two hours.

Traditions and Events

Hajany’s traditions include the “Oslavy osvobození”, featuring historical uniforms, and the “Hajanské hody”, with costumed festival leaders. For 2026, “Hajanská 15” is listed as its 53rd edition and as a march involving the tourism department. “Hajanská běhna 2026” is listed by T.J. Sokol Hajany as a tourism department event with map information and online registration.

Nature and Trails

The valley of the Bobrava River, which has been a nature reserve since 1982, lies in the immediate vicinity of Hajany. The area around Hajany is suitable for hiking.
