Kanice is located about 10 km northeast of Brno in a mild valley between wooded hills on the southern edge of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. The cadastral area extends to the Svitava River; Stádla is located in the vicinity of Kanice.

Landscape and Surroundings

The Brno Zoo, Baba, the ruins of Kuchlov and Babí Lom are located in the vicinity of Kanice. In the wider regional area are the ruins of Hrádek, Veveří Castle and Zlobica.

Culture and History

Obřany Castle was built in 1278 by Gerhard ze Zbraslavi as the ancestral seat of his family. It is classified as an immovable cultural monument and an archaeological site. Near Obřany Castle, a system of medieval paths leading to the castle and a medieval path to the former lime kilns have been preserved.

Activities

The municipality of Kanice operates the Chocholky cycling trails as an outdoor sports facility in the municipal forest. The Jaroslav Marcha Circuit is 14 km long.
