Active pursuits

The green-marked hiking route from Hvozdec leads west through the Javůrecké forest district and the municipality of Javůrek to the Hotel Devět křížů. The green-marked hiking route from Hvozdec also leads east through the Obora settlement to the Masaryk Circuit. A yellow-marked hiking route passes the Ríšova studánka spring in the direction of the Brno Reservoir.

The Tour de Veveří is intended for pedestrians, cyclists, runners and travellers with prams. Its routes lead through Říčany, Javůrek, Veverské Knínice, Hvozdec, Veverská Bítýška, Chudčice and Rozdrojovice. These places are among the seven municipalities of the former estate of Veveří Castle.

The Hvozdec pump track can be used with mountain bikes and BMX bikes, longboards, skateboards, inline skates, scooters and children's balance bikes.

Landscape

The walk-in Trůn photo point in Hvozdec is located near the meeting point of the cadastral areas of Hvozdec, Veverské Knínice and Javůrek, next to an old, spreading oak tree. It offers views over the former estate of Veveří Castle and beyond, as well as an opportunity to take photographs.

Zlobica, Babí Lom and Paní hora are located in the surroundings of Hvozdec. The Helenčina studánka spring lies in the immediate vicinity of Hvozdec.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Hvozdec dates from 1317. At that time, Kateřina, the widow of Tas of Lomnice, donated the village of Hvozdec, including its farmstead and settlers, among other things, to the Convent of St. Anne in Brno.

Veveří Castle lies northeast of Hvozdec on the right bank of the Brno Reservoir. It is one of the largest castle complexes in the Czech Republic; its first mention dates from 1213.

Jarošův mlýn is an important cultural monument in Veverská Bítýška, 4 km away. It currently serves as a museum of the miller's craft and as a gallery.

The ruins of Tempelštejn and Rabštejn are located in the wider regional surroundings of Hvozdec.
