The history of Lužice can be explored at a specific location: “Starý kvartýr” is a museum of the traditions, history and skills of Lužice’s former and present-day residents in the Hodonín region. The building is already marked on a cadastral map from 1827.

Culture and Local History

Classical music concerts are held in the local church in Lužice. In 1932, the academic painter Köhler decorated the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Lužice with paintings of the church’s patrons, Saints Cyril and Methodius, as well as Saint Martin and Saint Wenceslas.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in 1825 on the site of an earlier, dilapidated chapel and was moved to its present location on Ploštiny Street in autumn 2009. In its surroundings are sculptures depicting nativity scenes, created by students of art colleges under the direction of curator and academic sculptor Lída Pecková at the “Dřevo, kámen – Lužice” symposia in 2010, 2011 and 2013.

Surroundings

Near Lužice are Holíčsky zámok Castle, the Svätá Margaréta Church and Mount Vyšicko [Mutěnice]. Further afield in the region are Pohansko Castle, Mount Ostrý, the ruins of Šaštín, and the mountains of Holý vrch and Barbajky.

Nature and Leisure

The Cihelna grounds are a recreational and leisure area for the wider surrounding region and are suitable for fishing. During the summer months, cultural events known as “Lužické léto” are held there.

The Včelařské Arboretum has an educational bee trail in its garden featuring trees and shrubs preferred by bees. According to the selection criteria of the Veronica Institute of Ecology, the Včelařské Arboretum is maintained as a model natural garden.
