Nechvalín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nechvalín combines an early documentary reference with distinctive traces of its medieval past: the first mention appears in a forged founding charter of the Vizovice Monastery dated to 1261. The historic heritage also includes the castle site of the former knightly fortress of Nechvalín, which is listed as an immovable cultural monument.

Culture and History

The former fortress of Nechvalín was probably built as early as the first half of the 14th century. The finds from the burial ground point even further back: four iron swords, seven axes, six spears, spurs, as well as jewellery and vessels were found there. These grave finds suggest that Nechvalín was one of the significant Great Moravian strongholds.

Chapel and Traditions

The Chapel of Saint Catherine is another historical point of reference. It was completed on 18 October 1890 and consecrated on 15 August 1891 together with the cross standing beside it. A priest working in Lovčice, Fr. Stanislav Kovář, travels to the Chapel of Saint Catherine in Nechvalín to celebrate services there.

The local traditional costume tradition has also been preserved: Nechvalín’s rescued local half-Haná costumes are worn especially during the Kateřinské hody, which take place at the end of November.

Wine and Trails

The local landscape includes vineyard areas named “Borový čtvrtě”, “Kučky” and “Lovecký”. The vineyards of Nechvalín lie on slopes facing south and west. The Kyjov Wine Trail also runs through the village.
