Lipovec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lipovec lies on the edge of the Moravian Karst, at the transition between the karst region and the Drahany Highlands. Nature, historic buildings and active experiences are closely connected here with specific places and their history.

Nature

The specially protected area of Černá skála encompasses a pond at the bottom of an old quarry with Culm shales in the built-up area of the municipality of Lipovec. Černá skála protects a particularly valuable habitat for amphibians; the occurrence and reproduction of several specially protected animal species have been documented there. At Černá skála, siltstones and fine-grained greywackes of the Rozstáň Formation are exposed in an abandoned quarry.

History and Architectural Heritage

The first written record of Lipovec dates from 1349. There is also an archaeological site of an unknown, vanished medieval settlement, whose existence has been dated on the basis of archaeological finds to the period from the second half of the 13th century to the beginning of the 16th century.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Lipovec was built from 1828 to 1842 and consecrated on 8 September 1843. It was built without a tower; in 1921, a small tower structure was added to its roof. In front of the church stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, newly made in 1816 and moved there in 1975. The cross in front of the church was erected in 1852 by farmers and carters from Lipovec who transported charcoal to Adamov.

The lime kilns are also among the surviving traces of the village: the Velká dohoda lime kiln was founded in 1928 and operated until 1979. The remains of the Vrchničákova lime kiln have been preserved in Lipovec. Vodákova is the second of the two surviving lime kilns in Lipovec.

Events and Traditions

Lipovec has a tradition of tasting slivovitz and slivovitz liqueur. The 20th edition took place on 15 February 2025; another tasting is scheduled for 7 February 2026. Various events are held at the Sokolovna in Lipovec, including Easter and Christmas exhibitions as well as theatrical performances by local artists. On 21 March 2026, the Vápeníček association will hold a traditional Easter exhibition there.

Routes and Activities

Lipovec is home to a cycle-route junction from which practically all surrounding municipalities can be reached. A green-marked hiking trail begins in the resort town of Jedovnice, passes through the municipality of Senetářov and the Zálomí trail junction by the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Lipovec, continues to the Velká Dohoda complex and ends in Suchý žleb at Kalvodův kříž.

The Velká Dohoda complex has practice via ferratas, or secured routes, with a length of 150 metres. Climbing is possible on a 15-metre-high limestone wall; the necessary equipment and an instructor are available. The Velká Dohoda rope park is arranged on ten posts and includes ten high and seven low obstacles; it is suitable for children and adults.
