Velké Opatovice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Velké Opatovice takes you from the city’s history and cartography via an educational trail to water-based activities at the Koupaliště. Historical buildings and distinctive local topics are just as much in focus as natural attractions in the northern part of the Blansko District.

Culture and history

The Muzeum a Památník města focuses on the history of Velké Opatovice, local-history collections and the historic library of the Herberstein family. The Moravské kartografické centrum presents the development of cartography in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia from the earliest times to the present day. One admission ticket entitles visitors to enter both the Moravské kartografické centrum and the Památník města.

The château of Velké Opatovice, built in the Baroque style in 1757, is part of the town’s historic character. The Church of Saint George was first mentioned in writing in 1392. The present building was constructed in 1790–1791, replacing a Gothic church that had been remodelled in the Baroque style in the second half of the 14th century. A relief of Saint George, created by Karel Otáhal in 1951, is located on the wall behind the altar.

Nature and trails

The Hanýsek educational trail begins at Šraňky in Velké Opatovice and runs along field and forest paths. Nine information boards provide information about natural attractions in the northern part of the Blansko District. The Opatovická borovice also has a special distinction: in 2014, it was the Czech Tree of the Year.

Water and leisure

The Koupaliště in Velké Opatovice has a swimming pool, a leisure pool and a children’s pool. There is also a 70-metre-long water slide and a slide.
