Javůrek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Javůrek is closely connected with the Údolí Bílého potoka Nature Park: three quarters of the area lie within this nature park. This includes the settlement of Šmelcovna and a larger built-up part of Javůrek.

Nature

The part of the Údolí Bílého potoka Nature Park located in Javůrek is a wooded landscape in a narrow, rocky valley along Bílý potok. The nature park’s near-natural character provides a habitat for a wide variety of forest animal species. In the eastern part of Javůrek, near the northern municipal boundary, there is also the “Rozsypaná” Natura 2000 site, with valuable scree slopes and ravine forests.

Hiking and Cycling

Šmelcovna is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists in the vicinity of Javůrek. The first kilometre of the route from Javůrek to Šmelcovna follows a dirt track to Javůrecká hájenka. A 45-kilometre cycling tour to Šmelcovna leads via Javůrecká hájenka and through the Bílý potok valley. In the opposite direction, a cycling route leads from Šmelcovna via the uphill section of the Železná stezka towards Javůrek.

Culture and History

A chapel was built in 1834 on the village square in Javůrek as the Chapel of Saint Florian. In 1940, it was rebuilt and rededicated as the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. In the vicinity of Javůrek, the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows from 1905 stands in Šmelcovna. Kubův most is also located there, the only surviving bridge of the former Báňská horská cesta, now called Železná.

Other historical traces in Javůrek include the Stříbrnické štoly. They are a registered significant landscape feature at a former mining site. Near Javůrek, by the settlement of Šmelcovna, fragments of the masonry structures of a formerly extensive iron ore-processing complex can be found under the name “Železářská huť”. At the crossroads leading to Domašov and Lesní Hluboké, there are also the Boží muka, a significant immovable cultural monument in Javůrek, built in 1807.

Tradition

Since 1902, “Vítání jara” has taken place in Šmelcovna every first Sunday of spring. As part of this tradition, Morana is thrown into Bílý potok.
