Borovník: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Borovník is a small municipality at the foot of the peaks of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, stretching along the Halda stream. Strženec Pond lies along the course of the Halda stream on the northwestern edge of Borovník; smaller forests extend across the surrounding area.

Village Character and History

The first written record of Borovník dates from 1398. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is considered Borovník’s dominant landmark. A masonry bell tower stands in the centre. A stone cross from the 18th century stands at a site where, according to local tradition, a pilgrim froze to death; two further stone crosses stand on the outskirts of Borovník.

A local legend about Franz Juříček is also told in Borovník. According to the story, he fought against Swedish soldiers and stopped a mill wheel with his bare hands.

Traditions and Community Life

A women’s association continues to uphold the tradition of an annual carnival procession in Borovník. The first Borovník–Rozseč carnival procession took place in 1976. A traditional pilgrimage takes place in Borovník every year in the second half of May. The annual pilgrimage is held on the grounds of the former school. An occupancy calendar is available for the former school building; reservations can be made through the municipal office.

The school in Borovník was ceremonially consecrated in October. In 1997, a sports facility was established next to the school building, including a refurbished tennis court.

Paths and Routes

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Borovník via Vidonín, along the Libochovka and past Mezibořský Pond, to Meziboří. A 30-kilometre route passes through Borovník; the village is reached at kilometre 25. The 30-kilometre cycling route “Pramen Haldy” leads from Níhovský Pond via Borovník to Rozseč. The area around Borovník is suitable for walks and cycling tours on marked trails.
