Hovorany: Wine Trails, Wine Cellar Lane and Culture

In Hovorany, you can begin the wine educational trail through the municipalities of Moravian Slovakia. The 31 km-long route is well suited to cycling. Around Hovorany, there is also “Hovoranskými vinohrady za vínem”, an approximately 5 km circular route suitable for walkers and cycling tourists. The different route lengths and the specified means of transport make it easier to compare various day plans.

Wine and Routes

Along the “Hovoranskými vinohrady za vínem” route, at least 20 wineries offer a selection of their own wines. In the Hluboká cesta cellar area in Hovorany, you will find the Vinařství Machalínek wine cellar, where wine tastings are held with expert explanations.

The event includes guided tours of wineries with explanations, singing groups, performances by winemakers’ children and evening entertainment.

The Hovoranské hody 2026 in Hovorany was a five-day festival featuring folklore, music and traditional costume customs. It included the raising of the maypole, processions in traditional costumes and evening entertainment.

Culture and History

The Church of St John the Baptist in Hovorany was built between 1721 and 1725 by expanding an early Baroque chapel dating from 1670. This single-nave Baroque building has a distinctive prismatic tower on the west façade.

The Hovorany Museum is located in a listed building featuring typical folk architecture and a painted façade. It displays historical artefacts from the fields of domestic life, agriculture, mining, viticulture and local crafts. The museum also includes an exhibition about the local artist, academic sculptor and medallist Václav Adolf Kovanič.

The Church of the Redeemer of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Hovorany dates from 1957. The painted Chapel of St Roch dates from 1834.

Nature

Near Hovorany lies the Hovoranské louky protected area, approximately 1.5 km northwest of the municipality in the direction of Karlín. Hovoranské louky is part of the European Natura 2000 network for nature conservation. The protected area preserves steppe and dry grassland communities with rare, endangered and protected plant species.
