Prušánky has a special local connection through the Nechory wine cellar settlement: Nechory comprises 408 wine cellars. From Prušánky, it can be reached on foot, by bicycle via a wine cycling trail, or by car.

Winegrowing and cycling trails

There are four named winegrowing areas in Prušánky: Nechory, Úlehle, Podkovné and Čtvrtky. The Podluží Wine Educational Trail runs through Prušánky and Nechory and is suitable for gravel, mountain, trekking and electric bicycles.

K Nechorám do sklepa is a summer event in Nechory featuring a tasting of local wines. K Nechorám za mladým vínem is an autumn gathering in Nechory, a wine cellar village near Prušánky.

Culture and history

The parish church of St Isidore in Prušánky is a late Baroque building dating from 1751 to 1758. The dome of the parish church preserves well-preserved contemporary frescoes from the construction period of 1758.

The cellars in Upper and Lower Nechory began to develop around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. To this day, some cellars in Nechory are richly decorated on their doors and windows with Slovácko ornaments.

Traditions

The traditional four-day Hody festival in Prušánky takes place in August beneath a roof of green leafy branches. It regularly begins with a Saturday event featuring cimbalom music, at which the local Slovácký krúžek performs with a men's choir and a women's choir. The Sunday programme includes a costumed procession with brass music to the mayor, in order to request permission to hold the celebration.

Zarážání hory traditionally takes place in Prušánky at sunset on the first Saturday in September. During this custom, a decorated wooden pole is erected, with red and white wine and red and white grapes attached to its top. Afterwards, some participants and their guests go to the wine cellars, drink wine and sing folk songs.

Hiking

Pochod slováckými vinohrady originated in the 1970s as a long-distance hiking tradition; the first edition took place in 1977. Since the 36th edition, the routes of Pochod slováckými vinohrady have run through the Podluží region and ended in the Nechory wine cellar area near Prušánky.

Prušánky is connected to the surrounding municipalities by regular bus services. The nearest railway station is in the neighbouring municipality of Moravská Nová Ves, 4 km from Prušánky.
