Kněždub: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kněždub lies at the foot of Šumárník in a landscape characterized by orchards, fields, and vineyards.
Culture
The Church of St. John the Baptist dates from 1898 and was built in the pseudo-Romanesque style. Its interior was painted in an unusually modern style by the academic painter Vojmír Vokolek.
The birthplace of the Úprka brothers is a protected cultural monument. It houses a permanent exhibition of their works and also displays the period furnishings and fittings of the interiors in which they lived and worked. The restored birthplace of the brothers Jože and Franta Úprka was reopened to the public on 9 July 2005. It is a typical example of a clay-built structure from its era and is one of the few surviving typical examples of this construction method.
The painters Joža Úprka and Antoš Frolka, as well as the sculptor Franta Úprka, are buried in the local cemetery, “Slovácký slavín”. The municipality of Kněždub also lists the costumed traditional festival celebrations “krojované hody s právem” in October as a traditional event.
At the Selský domek in Kněždub, children can pet and feed Cameroon goats and other domestic goats, a pot-bellied pig, as well as rabbits and chickens.
Nature
The Čertoryje protected area extends across the cadastral territories of Hrubá Vrbka, Kněždub, and Tvarožná Lhota.
The Čertoryje area is home to the lady’s slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus), the sickle-leaved saw-wort (Serratula lycopifolia), and the marsh gladiolus (Gladiolus palustris). The lady’s slipper orchid is found at three locations in the White Carpathians and occurs there at two microlocations, with two clumps. Serratula lycopifolia is found at four locations in the White Carpathians and forms extensive stands in the Vojšické louky area, as well as two microlocations measuring a few square metres below the summit of Čertoryje. The site where Gladiolus palustris occurs is the only one in the White Carpathians; just a few specimens grow there at a single microlocation.
