Žeraviny lies at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty, on the edge of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and on the right bank of the Velička. The village therefore combines a clearly defined landscape setting with a townscape in which historic and more recent buildings stand side by side.
Landscape
The mountains Holý vrch, Kobyla, Veselka and Strana are located in the wider regional surroundings of Žeraviny. The location on the edge of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area and at the foot of the mountain range forms the village’s landscape setting.
Architectural Heritage and History
At the eastern and western edges of Žeraviny, two former mill buildings stand along the Mlýnský náhon. On the village square there is a 1905 bell tower decorated with folk paintings. The Chapel of Panna Maria Lurdská, built in 1921, is another local landmark.
The four-sided Chapel of sv. Alžběty dates from 2001. It was built with the support of natives of Žeraviny living in Canada. Groups of traditional folk houses with colorful façades have also been preserved in Žeraviny. The cemetery contains a grave of soldiers of the Romanian army.
