Holiday apartments in Držková: Nature, trails and traditions

The Přední Skaly rise above Držková. From their peaks, views extend across the village and its valley. The rock formations, consisting of sandstone and conglomerate, were declared a natural monument in 1987. At the same time, the Přední Skaly are used by both experienced and less advanced climbers.

Nature

The entire cadastral area of Držková belongs to the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park. The northern part of the cadastral area also belongs to the Hostýnské vrchy Bird Protection Area. Approximately 1 kilometre north of Držková lies the Holíkova rezervace nature reserve. This protected area contains a mixed forest with a predominance of beech trees; there are also sandstone outcrops and the Zadní skály rock formations.

The springs are also part of the village landscape: Držková has thirteen well-maintained springs distributed throughout the cadastral area. Frdlantka is a spring in a wooden trough near the old Slovákova dřevěnice in Košařiska. From Vančica, the view extends as far as Troják and the Kotáry.

Culture

In the centre of Držková, the Muzeum dřevěného porculánu houses around 450 exhibits. They document life in Držková and Valašsko in the past. The collection also includes evidence of the former production of wooden tools and household utensils at home in Držková. The museum is open year-round; however, visits must be arranged in advance by telephone or email.

The Kaple svatého Václava is also located in the centre. It was completed and consecrated on 31 August 1930. The Čihařova chalupa is the only listed building in Držková. In 1981, it was dismantled in Jasenná and rebuilt in Ráztoky in Držková. At U Třech kamenů, three sandstone boundary stones can still be seen today.

A special tradition is the Končiny masked procession featuring the leading of the bear. This old tradition was revived in Držková by firefighters in the 1990s. The date of Končiny – vodění medvěda is not fixed but is calculated based on the date of Easter. The procession consists of ten to twenty masked figures and passes through Držková’s scattered farmsteads and cleared areas.

Trails

The Držkovské chodníčky educational trail is located in Držková in the Hostýnské vrchy. Its longest route is 21.6 kilometres long. The educational trail can be accessed at any point; information boards help with orientation. At U Třech kamenů, marked hiking trails lead to Tesák, Troják and Hostýn.

A red-marked hiking trail also passes through Držková, continuing towards Tesák and Rajnochovice. A blue-marked hiking trail begins in Držková and leads towards Kopná and Baťková. Several signposted connections are available for bicycles: Cycle Route 5038 leads from Držková through easier terrain to Rusava and onward to Hostýn. Cycle Route 6124 runs through the Májová district of Držková towards Vsetín, while Cycle Route 6123 connects Držková with Hošťálková.
