Holiday apartment in Drnovice U Valašských Klobouk – Ploština and nature park trails
Drnovice U Valašských Klobouk can be experienced through its culture, trails and viewpoints. The distinctive features of the village and its surroundings can be seen in its churches, memorial sites, educational trails and viewing structures.
Culture
The village is home to the Church of Saint Agnes of Bohemia, a modern Roman Catholic branch church. It was built in 1990 and consecrated on 21 July 1991. Ploština provides a much older historical connection: the former Pasekář settlement lies in the cadastral area of the municipality of Drnovice, 3 km north of Drnovice.
Ploština was declared a National Cultural Monument in the 1970s. The site includes a memorial to the victims of the Second World War and the occupation from the Zlín District. The memorial was built in 1975 and comprehensively reconstructed in 2008. Nearby, the permanent exhibition “Pasekářská osada Ploština” introduces visitors to the Pasekář way of life and Pasekář colonisation as a characteristic settlement phenomenon of Wallachia.
Ploština’s culture of commemoration and remembrance also includes the newly built chapel “Panny Marie Bolestné”, which was consecrated. Its pillars bear plaques with the names of all the murdered Pasekář settlers.
Nature and trails
Several hiking and cycling routes from Drnovice lead through the Vizovické vrchy and Bílé Karpaty nature parks. Mount Klášťov lies northwest of Drnovice. It belongs to the Vizovické vrchy Nature Park and contains the remains of an extensive fortified settlement.
The Vařákovy paseky educational trail comprises 15 marked stations. From Drnovice, it can be reached via Osada Ploština, Pod Sveradov and the Bařinka crossroads; the educational trail is approximately 12 km from Drnovice.
Viewpoints
The Drnovická vyhlídka was built in 2023 on a hill between Drnovice and the settlement of Ploština. It was designed as a tourist viewpoint and rest area and features a year-round accessible, barrier-free outdoor exhibition.
Another striking landmark is Rozhledna Drnovice, a freely accessible wooden observation tower standing 8 m high. A cycling trip to this tower is listed as 1.8 km long with an elevation gain of 100 m; the route is designated for MTB, cross and road bikes.
