Bukovany: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Above Bukovany stands the Bukovanský mlýn, a lookout tower in the shape of a windmill, which was built and opened in 2004. From its viewing terrace, the view extends across Kyjovské Dolňácko, with its fields, orchards and vineyards, to the ridges of the White Carpathians and the Chřiby Hills; in good visibility, it reaches as far as Kobyla Hill near Bratislava, up to 110 km away.

Culture

The Bukovanský mlýn houses a year-round sales gallery featuring traditional products from Slovácko, including traditional utility ceramics, Tupeská ceramics, straw and corn-husk products, and wooden products. The second floor contains a permanent exhibition on Slovácko cuisine, focusing on the first half of the 20th century.

The Chapel of John Paul II in Bukovany was consecrated on 20 October 2013. Above Bukovany, by the forest, stands the Kaplička sv. Anny at a former stop for pilgrims travelling to Krtin; it was built in 1995. From the Kaplička U svaté Anny, a modern Stations of the Cross leads along the forest, featuring 14 unusual artefacts made from simple forms of concrete, wood, iron or glass, built between 1999 and 2009.

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Dědina is listed in the central register of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The Alej vzpomínek in Bukovany is designed as a sculpture avenue featuring larger-than-life representations of 79 Czech rulers. Original folk customs have been preserved in Bukovany, including costume processions and the traditional “Martinské hody s věncem a káčerem”.

Wine and cuisine

Otevřené sklepení features an exhibition on viticulture, offering insights into wine production and the history of viticulture. It is open to the public free of charge every day from 11:00 to 20:00. Vinotéka Rotunda offers tastings of bottled wine from local wineries. At Mlynářská restaurace, visitors can try regional specialities prepared according to traditional recipes; the gastronomic offering focuses on the traditional cuisine of Slovácko and Old Bohemian cuisine.

Cycling routes

The Kyjovská vinařská stezka is a green-marked network of cycling routes starting in Vlkoš and stretching for almost 56 kilometres. It passes through a landscape of forests, orchards, vineyards, fields and meadows.
