Culture and history

In Bořitov, the Church of Saint George (Kostel svatého Jiří) stands on a low hill where a pagan cult site existed before the Christian era. Depending on the assessment, the church dates from the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century, in the earlier Romanesque period. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

According to the inscription on the cross, the church tower bears the year 1305. During restoration, the Chapel of Saint Anne (kaple svaté Anny) was added in 1480. The sculptural group of Hussite fighters located at Velký Chlum near Bořitov was restored in 2023.

Landscape and the past

A wooden observation tower was built on Malý Chlum, also known as Holý Chlum, in 2005. At the southern edge of the plateau, the remains of the stone wall and a spiral staircase carved into the solid rock are still visible. The settlement of Hradisko on Malý Chlum dates back to the Late Bronze Age.

The observation tower on Malý Chlum offers views in all directions, and admission is free. In principle, the tower is intended to operate year-round, but it is currently closed due to structural damage.

Getting around

Bořitov has good road connections via Expressway 43 and District Road 377. For cyclists passing through Bořitov, there is an information board at the intersection of Loužky and Polní streets.
