Adamov U Brna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Adamov combines unusual examples of architectural and industrial history with a lookout tower above the town and paths through the Křtinský Valley. The various sites range from a neo-Gothic church with a significant altar to a historic blast furnace.

Culture and History

The Kostel svaté Barbory was built in Adamov between 1855 and 1857 according to a design by Viennese architect Josef Kieser. The neo-Gothic church is 26 metres long and 10 metres wide. In 1857, the Světelský oltář was donated to the newly built church. Its central section, now located in the church in Adamov, depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. On 8 February 2010, the Government of the Czech Republic declared the Světelský oltář a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Another distinctive structure is the 15-metre-high stone Alexandrova rozhledna on Špičák above Adamov. It replaced a wooden lookout pavilion in 1887. From Alexandrova rozhledna, there is a view of the Svitava Valley and the surrounding area. The easiest access from Adamov leads from Sedmi dubů via the green-marked hiking trail.

In the western part of the Křtinský Valley lies Františčina huť, also known as Stará huť. It is a cultural monument dating from the mid-18th century, the oldest blast furnace in Central Europe, and at the same time one of the best preserved. The Františčina huť site is occasionally used for experimental and demonstration smelting in replicas of Slavic iron furnaces.

Routes

The connection between the historic sites and the valley is also described specifically. Cycle route 5077 runs through the Křtinský Valley to Josefov and on to Jedovnice. From Adamov railway station, the Kostel svaté Barbory can be reached via the yellow-marked route and Osvobození Street in approximately 15 minutes on foot.
