Křtěnov combines village architecture with a distinctive stream landscape and routes for active exploration. The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul shapes the appearance of the village centre, while the Hodonínka, also called Křtěnovský potok, flows through Křtěnov.

Chapel and Memorial Sites in the Village

The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul shapes the centre of Křtěnov. It received a special distinction in the rural renewal programme: in Category C for new rural buildings, it was awarded the “Zlatá cihla” prize, the “Golden Brick”. For a tour of the village, the chapel is therefore a prominent cultural landmark that connects modern rural architecture with the names of Saints Peter and Paul.

The memorial to the victims of the First World War and communism is one of the village’s memorial sites. It was created from a historic cast-iron cross and stands in Křtěnov on the right-hand side of the road at the edge of the village in the direction of Olešnice. This precise location makes the memorial a conspicuous stop for anyone who wants to get to know the village not only through its buildings, but also through its culture of remembrance.

The Hodonínka and Its Preserved Alder Stands

The Hodonínka is the most significant stream in the area of Křtěnov. Its course meanders considerably; original alder stands have been preserved along these meanders. The stream flows through Křtěnov and then around the Podhrázský mlýn mill. This creates a landscape connection between the watercourse, riverside vegetation and historic mill site, giving the village a nature-related character alongside its cultural attractions.

Cycling Routes and a Yellow-Marked Hiking Trail

Several signposted local cycling routes run through Křtěnov and cross one another in the village. In addition, a yellow-marked hiking trail passes through Křtěnov. It runs from Olešnice to Křtěnov and continues from there to the ruins of Louka Castle.

A detour via the crossroads near Valcha makes it possible to include the historic Podhrázský mlýn mill as another historical site. The mill lies away from the village of Křtěnov, below the dam of a pond that has since disappeared. For the years 1656 to 1678, Podhrázský mlýn is documented as a manorial mill.

Small Details with Their Own History

A mechanical nativity scene and wooden statues of Saints Peter and Paul are also among the distinctive features of Křtěnov. They were made by Milan Rossler from Křtěnov. Such handcrafted works give the village’s history a personal and vivid dimension and can add to a visit to its cultural sites with a detail that points beyond major buildings and destinations along the routes.
