Šumice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Šumice combines local history, viticulture, and the natural environment of the Šumické rybníky ponds. The oldest surviving written mention of a farmstead in Šumice dates back to 1365, giving the village a long-standing historical connection.

Nature

The Šumické rybníky area is an important breeding ground and a significant stopover site for migratory birds. It is also home to a significant population of fire-bellied toads (Bombina bombina). The Šumický rybník nature reserve was established in 1998 in the cadastral area of Šumice.

History and Village Character

The larger historic part of Šumice belonged to the Rosa Coeli Monastery in Kounice. In 1443, it passed into the ownership of Louka Monastery.

The village is characterized by the bell tower in the northern part of Šumice. There is a bell tower in the village. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the bridge in Šumice, while a wayside cross stands on the road to Loděnice near Šumice.

Wine and Events

Šumice is a wine-growing municipality in the Znojemská wine subregion. During the annual cycling event “Expedice za sousedy,” one of the route stops is located in the village square of Šumice.
