Culture and History

One of the municipality’s significant monuments is Vohančice Castle. The former Vohančice fortress was converted into a single-storey Renaissance chateau in 1600. Two Baroque wings were added to Vohančice Castle, forming, together with the original building, a U-shaped rectangular courtyard. Vohančice Castle is a valuable example of late Mannerist chateau architecture in a rural setting, with Classicist alterations and a preserved robot bell tower.

The Chapel of Saint Joseph was built in 1906 on the site of an earlier triangular wayside shrine. Parts of the Christmas and Easter traditions, the burning of witches, and St. Nicholas processions continue to be observed in Vohančice. The Václavské hody feast was revived in Vohančice in 2003; dance events are also held every year.

Landscape

Vohančice is located in the Křižanovská vrchovina highlands and is surrounded by wooded hills and meadows. There are orchards in the cadastral area of Vohančice. The Heroltický stream, a tributary of the Svratka, runs along the southern boundary of the cadastral area.

Activities and Routes

Cycling route 5198 passes through Vohančice and forms part of the Předklášteří–Pod Pasníkem–Deblín–Vohančice–Březina circuit. The local cycling routes are connected to the cycling systems of the Porta and Čebínka microregions.

Connections

IDS JMK bus route 331 connects Vohančice with Tišnov, Březina, Heroltice, Pejškov, and Deblín.
