Moutnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Moutnice combines sacred architectural history, art, customs, cycling routes and viticulture into a diverse local character.

Culture and History

The Church of St Giles in Moutnice was first mentioned in 1298 and is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It preserves a late Romanesque core; the enclosing walls of the nave and part of the presbytery wall have survived.

The three-metre-high sculpture group Cyril and Methodius is made of Greek Kozanis marble. The Crucifixion is considered an exceptionally high-quality artistic sculpture created in Moravia around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The writer Václav Kosmák is also associated with Moutnice: from 1872 to 1877, he wrote poems and stories here.

Traditions

In Moutnice, the hody celebrations are associated with the dožínky held at the end of August. During the procession, fruit, vegetables, flowers, grapes and ears of grain are brought to the altar. In the Roman Catholic parish of Moutnice, services are held from Wednesday to Friday at 6:00 p.m., on Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. with Sunday validity, and on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Cycling Routes

The more than 60-kilometre-long LVA–Slavkovské bojiště cycling route passes through Moutnice. It connects the Lednice-Valtice area, the Hustopečsko region and the Cezava region with Slavkovské bojiště. An additional cycling route runs between Moutnice and Těšany.
