Babice U Rosic: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Babice u Rosic combines a 19th-century chapel with visible traces of mining and a tourist narrow-gauge railway. The Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua was built in 1863 on the site of an older bell tower.

History

The history of the village dates back to the Middle Ages: from 1228 to 1307, Babice u Rosic belonged to the monastery in Oslavany; in 1307, the monastery in Sedlec near Kutná Hora acquired the village by purchase. The history of mining is also closely connected with the village. The former Důl Ferdinand mine operated from 1856 to 1955 and was the first vertical mine in the Rosice area. In 1910, an aerial cableway connected Důl Ferdinand with Důl Julius. A memorial cross in Babice u Rosic commemorates the withdrawal of Napoleon's troops.

Getting Around

The tourist narrow-gauge railway runs along the route Zbýšov – Babice u Rosic – Zastávka u Brna. A valid ticket is required for travel. The Stezka permoníků offers another link between outdoor activities and industrial heritage: it can be explored by bicycle or on foot and leads to mining monuments and unusual religious buildings. Landscape

In the forest, the former mine-shaft sites can still be identified by depressions or spoil-heap embankments. Halda babická is an artificial hill created by decades of accumulating spoil.
