Nedvedice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In and around Nedvědice, Pernštejn Castle, the history of local marble and several educational trails come together. Pernštejn is an exceptionally well-preserved medieval castle and was the seat of the Lords of Pernštejn.

Culture

In Pernštejn, visitors can trace the development of the seat from a simple castle through a late Gothic fortress, a Renaissance palace, a Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical residence, and finally to the Romanticism of the 19th century. The restored garden on the southwestern slope of Pernštejn Castle forms a unique ensemble of various garden styles in mountainous terrain unusual for a garden. It includes a formal French garden, a romantic garden, an Anglo-Chinese area and woodland sections.

The oldest written mention of Nedvědice dates back to 1350. Nedvědice probably originated as a settlement below the seat of the Lords of Pernštejn. Stonework was historically the best-known craft in Nedvědice; marble from Nedvědice was used in the reconstruction of Pernštejn Castle and the church in Doubravník.

Since September 2018, the permanent exhibition “Expozice stříbrného mincovního pokladu” has been located in the historic House No. 32 in Nedvědice. The exhibition of the silver coin hoard contains all 284 coins found in 2016 near the settlement of Dolní Čepí, not far from Nedvědice. It also displays white, blue, grey and pink marble from Nedvědice, original stonecutting tools, and information panels on the history of local marble quarrying and marble processing.

Nature

The entire cadastral area of Nedvědice and Pernštejn lies within the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. Along the paths there are also viewpoints with various connections to the castle. The “Skalní vyhlídka” viewpoint on the path from Pernštejn to Sejřek was professionally reconstructed with a stone staircase in 2015 as part of the educational trails, offers an unusual view of Pernštejn Castle, and is freely accessible all year round.

The Maria Laube viewpoint, also called Mařenčino loubí, can be reached via the yellow-marked hiking trail towards Věžná in about ten minutes on foot from Pernštejn Castle and offers a view of the castle.

Trails

The red educational trail “Naučná stezka I” leads from Nedvědice to Pernštejn Castle and back over 4 km. The blue educational trail “Naučná stezka II” runs for 5.2 km from Pernštejn via Smrček to Nedvědice. The educational trails around Nedvědice are suitable for walks and cycling tours and are equipped with benches, shelters and bicycle racks.

The “Naučná stezka I” educational trail comprises 19 stations featuring sights and natural attractions in the surroundings of Pernštejn Castle. Nedvědice railway station has been in operation since 1905.
