Cvrčovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint James in Cvrčovice dates from around 1690 and is designated as a cultural monument. In 1828, it received a tower; a chapel of the Holy Sepulchre was added on the south side of the chancel in the 19th century, with an oratory built above it in 1885.

Culture and History

A Baroque statue of Saint Urban dating from 1750 stands in front of the cemetery gate. Cvrčovice is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1734.

The so-called Petersova Villa, dating from the second half of the 18th century, is listed as a château under registration number 1186; it currently houses the Střední odborné učiliště Cvrčovice vocational training centre.

The architectural heritage also includes the château and estate complex of Cvrčovice, with a gate, farm buildings and an administrative building. It is designated as an immovable cultural monument.

River Landscape and Nature

The Jihlava flows through the municipality of Cvrčovice; a weir is located there at river kilometre 18.4. The Niva Jihlavy Nature Park lies within the Cvrčovice area.

The landscape of the nature park is shaped by the freely meandering Jihlava floodplain, fragments of floodplain forest, extensive riverside vegetation, and two systems of abandoned river channels or oxbow lakes. This is the only preserved area of its kind in the Brno-venkov District; in the South Moravian Region, it is one of three longer preserved sections of lowland rivers.

The riverside campsite in Cvrčovice offers pitches for tents and caravans directly on the Jihlava, with a view of the Cvrčovický weir. A Bailey bridge dating from 1946 crosses the Jihlava in Cvrčovice.

Events

The Odborné učiliště Cvrčovice vocational training centre holds an annual Christmas market where visitors can view and purchase handicrafts made by the students. The third round of the sitontop Cup currently takes place in Cvrčovice every year; the competition is open to the general public.

The Cvrčovický džbánek has been held since 2000 as a race for two-person teams in a rowing boat and is open to the general public. The Cvrčovická neckyáda is connected with the Cvrčovická footbridge and includes raft races.

The marked Vinařská stezka Brněnská – Uherčice–Těšany Route cycling trail runs through Cvrčovice.
