Šitbořice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Šitbořice is home to Hradisko, an important archaeological site. The remains of a probably medieval fortification can be seen there, featuring a central hill, a ditch and an inner rampart.

Landscape and cycle routes

Šitbořice lies where the Dyje–Svratka Valley transitions into the foothills of the Ždánický les. The surrounding landscape is characterised by steep hills and narrow ravines.

Two cycle routes pass through the village: the Velkopavlovická wine cycle route and cycle route 5114, Šaratice–Šitbořice.

From Brno, Šitbořice can be reached via road II/380 towards Hodonín. About 25 km from Brno, turn right after the municipality of Těšany.

Culture and history

Hradisko lies in the centre of Šitbořice as a low hill. According to legend, it is associated with a small castle; its circular shape resembles a Celtic fortification, and several archaeological finds have been made there.

The Church of St Nicholas is a single-nave Neo-Romanesque building. It was built between 1910 and 1913 on the site of an original medieval church.

The church is used daily. Several hundred parishioners attend Sunday services.

Traditions and events

Cycle ball has long been part of Šitbořice’s events calendar: international tournaments have been held there regularly since 1988. In addition, TJ Sokol Šitbořice and the municipality organise the “TURNAJ MISTRŮ SVĚTA” cycle-ball tournament every February.

Another established tradition is Stavění máje at the end of April. During this event, the maypole is carried in a procession through the village to Sokolovna and erected together. The custom is followed by a dance at Sokolovna.

During Svatováclavské hody, a procession in traditional costumes makes its way to Sokolovna, followed by a dance festival there.

“Jaro na staré škole” is a traditional spring afternoon held at Stará škola in Šitbořice. The programme includes creative activities, social encounters and an Easter atmosphere.

Mineral water and Orlovna

Štengar mineral water has a hydrogen sulfide concentration of 5.50–9.50 mg/l H2S.

Štengar is hydrogen sulfide-containing mineral water in Šitbořice. лечебные baths were established in the renovated community centre Orlovna.
