Pouzdřanská step–Kolby is a national nature monument covering an area of 157.1302 hectares, which was first designated on 10 May 1946. The protected area preserves stands of narrow-leaved and broad-leaved dry grasslands (Bromion erecti), dry herb fringes (Geranion sanguinei), tall-growing mesophilous and xerothermic shrubs (Berberidion), low xerothermic shrubs (Prunion spinosae), Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests (Primulo veris-Carpinetum), and Pannonian thermophilous oak forests on loess (Aceri tataricae-Quercion).

The Obora and Pálava hills are located near Pouzdřany. The hills of Nedánov and Leskoun are located in the wider regional surroundings of Pouzdřany.

Culture and History

The parish church of St. Nicholas in Pouzdřany is a late Gothic building dating from 1498. It was probably fortified originally and was remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Renaissance House No. 115 near the Church of St. Nicholas in Pouzdřany preserves a mázhaus on the ground floor, as well as rooms with groin vaults.

The chateau in Pouzdřany was originally a Renaissance building from the end of the 16th century and was later remodelled and extended in the Baroque period and in the 19th century. It stands on a U-shaped ground plan; an arcade gallery has been preserved on the ground floor of the courtyard.

The wider regional surroundings of Pouzdřany include the ruins of Dívčí Hrady, the Fünfkirchen chateau, and the Falkenstein ruins. The South Moravian Cross shrine is also located there.

Trails and Wine Route

Pouzdřany railway station is integrated into the IDS JMK integrated transport system. The Moravian Wine Trail passes through Pouzdřany and, in the Hustopečsko microregion, forms part of a route through 16 municipalities. The section of the Moravian Wine Trail between Pouzdřany and Popice offers a view of the Pouzdřanská step national nature monument.

Viticulture

Vinařství Kolby grows nine white and three blue grape varieties on nearly 40 hectares.
