Vlastiboř: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A particularly tangible example of the region’s architectural heritage is Farmstead No. 12 in Záluží u Vlastiboře: this three-part rural estate in the historic village centre has been preserved in an almost authentic form and is considered a valuable example of folk architecture.

Architectural Heritage

In 1995, Vlastiboř was declared a village conservation reserve. Vlastiboř and its associated districts feature folk architecture in the peasant Baroque style. Historic farmsteads are often richly decorated with stucco. The areas around the farmsteads include gardens, orchards, meadows and adjoining field margins, which gradually merge into the open countryside.

Museums and Village Landscapes

Záluží u Vlastiboře showcases this village landscape in several places. The village square includes a pond, a chapel and a smithy; the rural buildings there have richly articulated façades, white stucco decoration and colourful façades. The Doll Museum in Záluží displays dolls and nativity scenes, a black kitchen, as well as a living room with period furnishings. Works by Jiří Trnka and Václav Vaněk can also be seen.

The village square in Velká Strana includes a chapel and the building known as “Stará hospoda”. On the village square in Svinky stands a unique building that houses a chapel, a smithy and a fire station under one roof. Malá Strana lies south and southwest of the Bechyňský potok stream; it has a smaller village square with an inn and a chapel dating from 1893.

History and Traditions

The partisan shelter was built in 1944 by the Konstantin partisan group and has been a state-protected monument since 3 May 1958. The local Easter tradition known as “nové léto” is still maintained in Vlastiboř; on the second day of Easter, girls walk around with the “nové léto”.

Trails

The “In the Footsteps of Peasant Baroque” route passes through Borkovice, Mažice, Zálší, Klečaty, Komárov, Svinky, Vlastiboř and Záluží. In the surrounding area, it can be extended by the Borkovická blata educational trail.
