Mladá Vožice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The history of Mladá Vožice is reflected in its historic buildings, memorial sites, and named routes. Its traces extend from medieval origins through Baroque alterations and ecclesiastical traditions to art, local history, and active routes through the surrounding area.
Culture and History
Vožický zámek Castle in Mladá Vožice was built between 1570 and 1603. Under the Küenburgs, it was rebuilt in its present Baroque form; the main entrance features remarkable, historically old carved gates.
The church in Mladá Vožice, dedicated to Saint Martin, was already standing in 1348, when the town was first mentioned. One of the town’s oldest buildings is also the bell tower “Zvonice – solná věž”. The tower-like watch post was built on elevated ground in the center of Mladá Vožice. Its ground floor housed a salt store.
The Mladovožicko Memorial displays historic tableware made of tin, copper, porcelain, earthenware, and glass. It is currently dedicated to the historian and professor August Sedláček (1843–1926), who was born in Mladá Vožice, founded Czech local and family history studies, and created the monumental work “Hrady, zámky a tvrze Království českého”. The museum also includes an exhibition of works by the academic painter Ota Bubeníček (1871–1962), who lived and worked in Mladá Vožice. The art gallery displays paintings by Czech and European painters from the 17th to the 19th century. The entrance is through the passageway via the Information Center.
Chapel and Memorial Sites
The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Hrad stands on the site of a royal castle that was completely destroyed in 1425 during the Hussite Wars. Around the middle of the 17th century, Krištof Karel Přehořovský z Kvasejovic commissioned the construction of the chapel.
A Stations of the Cross leads up the slope to the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Hrad. From the west, it can be reached via 32 stone steps. The chapel is open every year during Advent, at Christmas, at Easter, and during the Vožice pilgrimage. The “Na hradě” chapel offers views of hilly countryside and green valleys.
A group of four former Jewish houses has been preserved on Židovská Street. The surviving wall remains of the neo-Gothic synagogue in Mladá Vožice, together with an adjoining house, form a residential building; a memorial plaque on it commemorates the victims of the Holocaust.
