Přední Zborovice lies on the Volyňka in the foothills of the Šumava. The river flows through the village and forms picturesque bends there; the section flowing through Přední Zborovice is designated as a trout fishery.

Landscape and Trails

The area around Přední Zborovice offers excellent conditions for hiking. Beyond the village, the Zlatá stezka leads to a fork below Ostrá mountain. From there, it offers a sweeping view towards the Volyňka valley.

The Volyňka cycle route also passes through Přední Zborovice. It runs from the source of the Volyňka in the Šumava to its confluence with the Otava in Strakonice. In the dense coniferous forests above Přední Zborovice, the remains of a medieval hillfort can be visited on walks.

The Přední Zborovice stop is located on the eastern edge of the village on railway line 198 between Strakonice, Vimperk and Volary.

Culture and History

Near the Volyňka River, at the fork in the road to Sousedovice and Radošovice, stands the Kaplička Ukřižování Páně chapel. It is situated between two mature protected lime trees and dates from the first half of the 18th century. The Kaplička Ukřižování Páně is two metres high, has a rectangular ground plan and faces east.

The Boží muka dates from the 17th century and consists of three storeys separated by cornices, each becoming smaller towards the top. It stands in a field between Přední Zborovice and Radošovice. The stone bridge over the Volyňka was built between 1912 and 1913.

Finds of Roman coins and other objects of Roman origin indicate a historic route through Zborovice. In the time of Maria Theresa, Přední Zborovice lay on the so-called old road leading from Mýto (Mauth) in Bavaria towards Strakonice. According to tradition, soldiers from the Swedish wars are buried beneath the Zborovické lípy lime trees.

Historical records by merchants describe Přední Zborovice as a popular resting place after the arduous descent from the forests of the Šumava.
