Nicov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nicov combines sacred history with trails and viewpoints in the Šumava. The village is home to Kostel sv. Martina, a Late Romanesque building from the 13th century described as the highest Romanesque building in Bohemia.

Culture

A Benedictine provostry of Ostrov Monastery existed in Kostel sv. Martina from the beginning of the 14th century until 1420. The porch is freely accessible for a view into the nave.

In Nicov, the Kohoutí kříž is a remarkable work of folk art. The present-day Kohoutí kříž at the edge of the forest, approximately 0.5 km northeast of Nicov, is a copy made in 2005.

Landscape

The Kohoutí kříž offers a panoramic view. The summit of Královský kámen is a junction of marked hiking trails. From there, the view extends across the southern part of the Šumava towards Boubín and Třístoličník.

Obří hrad near Popelná, close to Nicov, lies in Zone I of Šumava National Park. The site is situated on a wooded hill above the Losenice valley near Nicov and offers views. Its archaeological remains include double defensive walls and a central acropolis.

Trails and winter

Marked hiking trails and signposted cycling routes pass through the municipality of Nicov. The “Keltové na Šumavě” educational trail leads from Popelná near Nicov to Obří hrad and is 1.5 km long (one way).

In winter, Nicov has areas prepared for cross-country skiing, with a maintained trail towards Churáňov, Zadov and Javorník in the Šumava.
