History and Architectural Heritage

The first written mention of Mnichov dates from 1243. In 1251, Mnichov was one of the villages that Bavor of Strakonice and his wife donated to the Order of Malta. Archaeological evidence in the area around Mnichov includes burial mounds from the Hallstatt period and, south of the village, a settlement from the Middle Hillfort Period that was abandoned in the 9th or at the beginning of the 10th century.

The historic farmsteads also preserve various architectural details. Farmstead No. 8 consists of a residential building with stables, a barn adjoining it to the north, a barn to the west, and other farm buildings with a retirement house on the southern side of the farmstead. No. 7 on the village square in Mnichov is a listed agricultural estate from the first half of the 19th century.

The Chapel of St. Adalbert in Mnichov was originally Baroque and was rebuilt into its present form in 1854. The Baroque altar in the Chapel of St. Adalbert dates from the second half of the 17th century.

Landscape and Nature

The landscape around Mnichov consists primarily of fields, meadows, pastures, mixed forests, and ponds. Many waterbirds stay at Mnichovský rybník; birds of prey are also found in its surroundings.

Bus route 380729 connects Strakonice, Katovice, Krty, and Mnichov and is valid from 14 December 2025 to 12 December 2026. The excursion route “Za Christianem Battagliou” passes through Mnichov.
