Water and winter

In spring, the Teplá Vltava can be navigated by canoe from Borová Lada to Horní Vltavice along a 13 km section rated WW I–II in difficulty. The section of the Teplá Vltava from Horní Vltavice to Lenora is also navigable during the summer months, is rated ZW C in difficulty and is 7 km long. The municipal ski area “Nad Kovárnou” is located directly in Horní Vltavice. It has three ski lifts and includes a small snow park with natural and artificial obstacles. Horní Vltavice also has an information centre.

Nature

Tourist trails lead from Horní Vltavice to the Boubínský prales primeval forest. At Jilmová skála, periglacial weathering processes have formed frost cliffs, tors and rock walls. Jilmová skála can be accessed via a walkable tourist trail located more than 250 m from the road.

Culture and history

The Church of the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John of Nepomuk in Horní Vltavice was created from 1724 onwards by rebuilding an earlier chapel. The bridge over the Vltava in Horní Vltavice was declared a cultural monument of technology in 1987.

In the wider region around Horní Vltavice, sections of the Schwarzenberský plavební kanál have been reconstructed; demonstrations of log floating take place on these sections several times a year. The Schwarzenberský plavební kanál, Kaplický potok and Vchynicko-Tetovský kanál complex is a national cultural monument.
