Drahov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Drahov is dominated by the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It stands at the highest point in the village, at an elevation of 441 m, and is protected by the National Heritage Institute.

Culture and History

As a parish church, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Drahov is documented at least as early as 1359. The Gothic masonry building from the early 15th century has a floor plan in the shape of a regular cross and was modified in the second half of the 16th century and again in the 19th century. Inside, remnants of the original wall paintings and a stone baptismal font have been preserved.

Near the church are a Marian chapel and a spring. According to local tradition, the water is said to have healing properties.

Landscape

The road running through Drahov also forms the boundary of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. The protected habitats at Farářský Pond include species-rich mesotrophic to waterlogged meadows, stands of sedges and rushes, and shoreline vegetation with shrubby willows.

Traditions and Trails

As part of the revived tradition of the Senné pilgrimages, a procession travels on the first Sunday in July from Veselí nad Lužnicí via nearby Zlukov to the pilgrimage church in Drahov. Another local tradition is the Drahov Tractor Show, featuring a gathering of tractors of various makes, years of manufacture, and ages.

Every year, Drahov hosts a masked procession through the village and a children's masked carnival. The nearby Nežárka River and the forests around Drahov are suitable for walks; the surrounding area of Drahov is also suitable for cycling.

Surroundings

Veselí nad Lužnicí, approximately 4 km from Drahov, is a railway junction with train connections to Prague, České Budějovice, and České Velenice, as well as to Brno via Jindřichův Hradec.
