Borotín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

East of Borotín, the ruins of the Gothic Borotín Castle stand on elevated ground. They are surrounded on three sides by the waters of Zámecký Pond and Babinec Pond.

History

The surviving remains include a cylindrical tower and an adjoining Gothic palace. Historical records first mentioned the castle in 1356 in connection with Vítek of Borotín.

The nearly 4 km-long Naučná stezka Jana Evangelusty Kypty educational trail leads to Borotín Castle and presents the history of the castle and Borotín. Visitors can park in Borotín or arrive by bus and then walk approximately 1.4 km to the castle.

Culture

The Baroque farmyard in Borotín, known as Starý zámek, is a protected cultural monument. Traditional harvest festivals are held at the Baroque farmyard in Borotín.

The Church of the Ascension of the Lord was founded in the first third of the 14th century. The vaulted presbytery and sacristy are preserved from the original Gothic structure. Jan Evangelista Kypta, a composer and educational writer born in Borotín, spent much time in the church; a substantial part of his later compositional work was devoted to church music.
