Culture and History

The Cistercian Abbey of the Virgin Mary in Klášter was founded in 1144 by Vladislav II and settled by monks from Ebrach in Germany. Among the remains of the former abbey, a Romanesque building with house number 39 has been preserved. Part of the former cloister, with gates dating from the early 14th century, adjoins the surviving abbey remains. The Neoclassical Chapel of St Margaret dates from 1861–1862.

Nature

Klášterský Pond is used primarily for fish farming and fishing. Buzrakov (Plánický hřeben) and Nad Moráskem are mountains in the area around Klášter. Šibenice [Nepomuk] and Buková hora [Měcholupy u Blovic] are hills in the immediate vicinity of Klášter.

Out and About

The educational trail below Zelená Hora leads from Nepomuk around Zelená Hora Castle to Klášter and back to Nepomuk. At just under 4.5 kilometres, it features nine stops with information panels. The educational trail is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and families with children, and can be navigated with a pushchair. There is a children's area next to the football pitch in Klášter.
