Hromnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Hromnické Lake is a protected natural monument near the municipality of Hromnice. It was formed as an artificial remnant of a slate quarry.

Nature

A gradually ascending path leads to Hromnické Lake; after about 100 metres, you reach a first viewpoint above the lake. Hromnické Lake can be circumnavigated entirely on foot. The lake is reported to be up to 18 metres deep. Due to the way it was formed, it is not suitable for swimming.

History

The Zámecký statek Býkov is a large listed manor farm in the peasant Baroque style. It was built in 1703 by Cistercians with the significant involvement of Evžen Tyttl, the abbot of Plasy Monastery; the buildings of the Býkov farmstead enclose an extensive rectangular courtyard.

The Church of St. George in Hromnice has Gothic origins and was completely rebuilt in the Baroque Gothic style from 1741 to 1744. The gates in its enclosing wall were added in 1749 under Abbot Silvestr Hetzer. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hromnice also has Gothic origins and features significant Gothic frescoes in the presbytery; during the Baroque period, it was extended by the Plasy abbot Silvestr Hetzer.

Culture

Nynice has a spacious, regularly circular village square lined mainly with masonry farmsteads featuring gates and gables; the square is dominated by a large Baroque chapel. The Chapel of St. Catherine in Nynice was built between 1696 and 1701. Nynice is a notable example of high-medieval rural urban planning.

Events and Sports

HROMFEST is a recurring public music festival in V Kolnách in Hromnice. SportAreál Žichlice is a public recreational sports centre with a multi-purpose artificial-turf court for tennis, volleyball, foot tennis, basketball and small-sided football.

The public Masopust celebration in Planá and Nynice will take place on 14 February 2026. The traditional procession starts at 10 a.m. in Nynice and ends from 6 p.m. at the Chotiná cultural centre with a dance evening featuring the Žužlan band from Lužany.
