Velečín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Velečín can be viewed from several specific perspectives: the landscape, cycling route, local history and local events shape the character of the village just as much as the buildings in Velečín and Ostrovec.
Landscape and Cycling Route
Cycling route 2152 runs through Velečín and Ostrovec. The Podvinecký stream flows northwest of Velečín. The Velečínský pond lies on this stream approximately 1.5 km north of Velečín; its water surface covers approximately 5 ha.
Cultural Monuments in Velečín
The Velečín atonement cross is a monolithic sandstone slab. The relief of a cross with trefoil-shaped ends is faintly visible on both sides. The atonement cross is a protected immovable cultural monument.
The niche chapel in Velečín is also a protected immovable cultural monument. A small brick niche chapel was built next to the church in the 19th century.
The Church of St. John the Baptist in Ostrovec
The protected Church of St. John the Baptist complex in Ostrovec comprises the church, a mortuary, a gravestone and an enclosing wall. The church stands approximately in the middle of a gently sloping, roughly circular village green. A low wall borders the area of the former cemetery.
A parish and a church dedicated to Saint John already stood in Ostrovec in the 14th century. In 1757, Count Czernin had the church rebuilt from the Gothic to the Baroque style. Restoration of the protected Church of St. John the Baptist began in 2006.
Exhibition and Local Events
The “Věž” exhibition in Velečín was scheduled to open on 28 June 2025 with a guided tour of the church tower led by the author. Firefighting competitions took place in Velečín on 24 May 2014, 4 May 2013 and 22 May 2010.
