Ždírec: Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Ždírec–Myť lies Ždírecká ZOO, a publicly accessible park that presents the local wildlife through artistically designed sculptures made of wood and metal, as well as educational and play elements. Visitors can try out interactive educational activities there, including a dendrophone and activities for identifying animals. The park is open free of charge every day year-round from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Nature and Landscape

The landscape around Ždírec encompasses several clearly designated natural areas. Chejlava is part of the Buková hora–Chýlava Nature Park. On a lydite substrate, the Chejlava forest has a character resembling a primeval forest; the Chejlava protected area safeguards flower-rich beech forests and scree forests.

The distinctive natural conditions are also evident around the Přešínský stream: the immediate surroundings are characterized by willow and alder stands, while the wider area initially consists of alder stands and forest, but predominantly of mown meadows. A stable population of noble crayfish lives in the stream and reproduces regularly and successfully. The area belongs to the Natura 2000 network and is designated as a natural monument.

Church and Chapel

In Žďár stands the Gothic Church of St. Wenceslas on a prominent headland above the right bank of the Úslava, next to a burial ground. It was built in the first half of the 14th century under the influence of the workshop of Pomuk Monastery. Its presbytery features unique frescoes dating from around 1350, depicting scenes from the Wenceslas legend.

Smederov is home to the Neoclassical Chapel of Our Lady of Klatovy. It is divided into two sections, each with its own entrance. The first section contains a central image of Our Lady of Klatovy, while the second contains a Nativity scene.

Trails, Rail Connection and Events

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through the municipality from Nepomuk via Kámen, Myť, Ždírec, Žďár, Smederov, Blovice and Vlčtejn to Nebílovy. For cycling, long-distance cycle route No. 31 includes the Vlčice–Ždírec section; in addition, a project envisages continuing the construction of a cycle connection between Blovice and Ždírec.

Ždírec has a rail connection on the main Plzeň–České Budějovice line and a railway station. Since 1991, the Silvestrovský běh has also officially been held here every year; it attracts athletes from all over the Czech Republic.
