Žákava lies in a valley between the Úslava River and the Bradava stream.

Landscape and trails

The Radyně and Nad Moráskem mountains are located in the vicinity of Žákava. The nearby area is home to Kamensko Hill [Blovice-Štítov] and Mariina skála Hill [Milínov u Nezvěstic]. The Žákava cycling route is part of the long-distance cycle route CT 31.

History

Žákava was the original seat of the knights Žákavci ze Žákavé. The Žákavci castle fortress stood on a rocky elevation at the site of today's house numbers 1 and 49. A historic farmstead stood on a slope above the Úslava. The former farmstead was later converted into a granary; the historic granary still stands in Žákava today.

Culture

The Church of St. Lawrence in Žákava dates from the 14th century, has Gothic origins and was later modified in the Renaissance and Baroque styles. The Žákava-Sváreč burial mound field is one of the largest burial mound fields in West Bohemia. In the wider regional surroundings of Žákava are the Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral church and the Church of Saint Martin. The Žákava Municipal Library is open to the public twice a month.
